What is the difference between an A-frame coupler and an adjustable coupler?

An A-frame coupler bolts or welds to the V-shaped front frame of a trailer and uses a fixed ball size (2" or 2-5/16"). An adjustable trailer coupler bolts onto a vertical channel on the tongue and can be raised or lowered to match different tow-vehicle heights while still using a standard ball.

What torque should trailer U-bolts be tightened to?

It depends on diameter and grade. As a general guide: 3/8" U-bolts at 30–50 ft-lbs, 1/2" at 70–90 ft-lbs, and 9/16" at 100–130 ft-lbs. Always follow the axle manufacturer's torque chart and re-torque after the first 50 miles.
